Gadgets solve everything: how Valentine's Day was at Foxtrot

The omnichannel retailer summed up the results of sales in Love Season. Spoiler: the top gifts include smartphones and small household goods from the "beauty" category

This year, Foxtrot's Valentine's Day sale ran from February 1 to February 14. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the turnover increased by 31.6%, which indicates the restoration of increased interest in this holiday among Ukrainians.

The most popular products are from the category of portable electronics (smartphones, smart watches and fitness trackers), the share of which in the overall structure of the company's turnover this year was 24% and increased by 20% compared to last year's stock turnover.

The category of small household appliances grew significantly and almost caught up with them – up to 20% and +48% compared to last year, respectively. But TVs and accessories did not show significant growth. However, the large household category grew: +52% by Love Season-2023.

Among the popular ones from the "women's beauty" category are hair care products, primarily hair dryers and multi-stylers. Their sales accounted for 46% in this category. The most popular product (aka the most desired gift) is the Dyson Airwrap HS05 Complete Long styler. Next are epilators, hair straighteners and hair dryers. But in artificial expression – the first place for devices for personal use (scales, massagers, dispensers, etc.).

Among the "men's" products, trimmers and electric shavers are at the top. In particular, the Philips All-in-One Series 11-in-1 universal trimmer won the championship here.

It is also worth noting that in the gender ratio there is no preference in one direction or the other, which suggests that during this period goods were bought approximately equally for both men and women.

"The greatest growth in quantitative terms was demonstrated by hair dryers, but in monetary terms, we see a significant increase in stylers, which is connected with the return of the Dyson brand to the Ukrainian market, as well as the growth of the category of hair dryer brushes. Such increased demand may indicate the gradual return of some women to Ukraine. In general, it is about the restoration of positive consumer attitudes in all categories of men's and women's beauty. In addition, the average+ and premium segment of goods is growing significantly," – said Vyacheslav Sklonny, commercial director of Foxtrot.

The retailer also noted such a pre-war trend of preparing for Valentine's Day as buying at the last moment. Sales have been growing moderately for the past two weeks, and the excitement came on the eve of the holiday and on February 14 itself, despite the fact that it was a weekday.

"Such dynamics repeat the trend of peacetime, when the greatest demand and desire of customers to buy gifts was concentrated in the last two days. Therefore, it was very joyful and touching to hear from customers these days that they choose the product as a gift. And this fact is another proof that despite the challenges of today, Ukrainians find an opportunity to give, appreciate and love," – Vyacheslav Sklonny concluded.
